Shelter layers

  1. [ 01 ]
    SELECT SITE

    ESCAPE immediate danger.

CHOOSE ground above streams, washes and rising water.

AVOID dead limbs, loose rock, exposed ridges and isolated trees.

Remain visible to rescuers when possible.

  2. [ 02 ]
    GROUND / MOISTURE

    DEPLOY the Tyvek® Groundsheet.

ADD dry insulation above it: pack, clothing, foam or dry vegetation.

LIMIT: Tyvek resists moisture. It is not sufficient insulation by itself.

  3. [ 03 ]
    BODY / HEAT

    ENTER the Hi-Vis Thermal Bivvy.

    COVER head and neck.

CRITICAL: KEEP face fully exposed. MAINTAIN airflow. Do not breathe into the bivvy; moisture reduces warmth. AVOID sweating or compressing insulating layers.

  4. [ 04 ]
    OVERHEAD / WEATHER

RIG the TARPAK™ Raincoat + Tarp overhead.

LOWER the windward edge. ANCHOR every corner.

    ANGLE for drainage. MAINTAIN ventilation.

In active rain, deploy the TARPAK™ first to protect yourself and the remaining gear.

Manage exposure

  1. [ 01 ]
    COLD / HYPOTHERMIA

SEEK SHELTER from wind and rain.

REPLACE wet clothing only when dry clothing or immediate dry covering is available.

DANGER SIGNS: Shivering, fumbling, slurred speech, confusion.

CONFUSED OR HARD TO WAKE? CALL 911.

INSULATE torso, head, neck and ground. WARM gradually.

HANDLE gently. NO alcohol. NO intense heat directly on skin.

  2. [ 02 ]
    HEAT / HEAT STROKE

    CREATE shade with the TARPAK™.

    INCREASE airflow. LOOSEN excess clothing.

DANGER SIGNS: Confusion, fainting, very hot skin.

CALL 911. COOL immediately with water, wet cloths and fanning.

NOTHING by mouth if confused or unconscious.

SAFE WATER AVAILABLE? SIP only if alert and able to swallow.

  3. [ 03 ]
    CRITICAL HAZARDS

CARBON MONOXIDE: NEVER use a stove, open flame or charcoal inside the bivvy or beneath an enclosed TARPAK™.

LIGHTNING: TARPAK™ provides NO protection. Seek an enclosed building or hard-topped vehicle. MOVE AWAY from ridges, open areas, isolated trees and water.

FLASH FLOOD: Rising water? GO TO HIGHER GROUND NOW.

Printed on the back of the module. Not a substitute for training or emergency services.

Questions04
What is in the Cover module?
Everything on the Inside list above, packed and heat-sealed in Mylar. Contents are updated as better parts arrive; the list on this page is current.
Does the Cover module fit my Core-01?
Yes. Every module here is the same module that ships inside Core-01 and straps to the same rigid panel, Standard or Extended.
How do I know when to replace it?
When the seal is broken. There are no dates to track; a sealed module keeps until you open it.
Can I buy Cover without a Core-01?
Yes. Modules are sold on their own here and work as a compact kit by themselves; Core-01 is the carrier that holds them together.
